US KIDS GO TO THE DENTIST FOR 3D MOVIES A trip to the dentist becomes more like taking in a stereoscopic 3D movie matinée with the Cinema ProMed System, powered by the Carl Zeiss Cinemizer OLED 3D VR glasses. NICKELODEON GETS 3D KIDS SERIES RIGHTS Nickelodeon has acquired rights on the Canadian-Korean 3D stereoscopic kids series Bolts & Blip for Belgium and the Netherlands. The Viacom-owned broadcaster has closed a deal with KidsPlant Distribution to air the Redrover/Toonbox-produced series in February 2013.

NO MORE 3D GLASSES FOR ITALIAN KIDS UNDER 6 Italy’s Ministry of Health has ruled that 3D glasses used to watch stereoscopic movies should be limited to viewers age 6 and above. Also, an investigation has been opened into a decision from the Cinema Exhibitors’ Association from last year to allow 3D glasses to be used by viewers as young as 3 years old. Warnings will be added to the instruction packets for all 3D glasses sold for home use.

EBU 3D ULTRA HIGH-DEFINITION TEST SEQUENCES In October last year the EBU released a set of UHD-1 test sequences to enable scientific testing of studio compression formats and video codecs for distribution to the home. The test set has now been enhanced with the addition of stereoscopic 3DTV content. The sets are available free-of-charge to EBU Members, with two sequences each from the UHD-1 and 3DTV sets being made freely available under a Createive Commons licence.
