Six days after his Red Wings won the '97 Stanley Cup, defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov was the passenger in a tragic limousine accident. He spent several weeks in a coma and was left permanently paralyzed from the waste down. When the Wings successfully defended their title and brought home the '98 Cup, they brought Konstantinov onto the ice to celebrate.
Stephen Gregory Yzerman (born May 9, 1965, Cranbrook, Canada) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and current general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League. Yzerman played his entire National Hockey League (NHL) career with the Detroit Red Wings and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Prior to the 1986–87 season at the age of 21, Yzerman was named captain of the Red Wings and continuously served for the next two decade (for over 1300 games).
