上空から眺めるような幾重にも盛り上がった空から、舞い降りる三羽の雁を短冊判にまとめた広重の傑作です。1949年に切手の図柄にもなっているおなじみの作品です。左右から藍のボカシを交錯させ立体感を作り出しています。冴え冴えと輝く満月、静かに流れる蒼い雲、そして三羽の落雁。澄み渡った秋の空遠く、物悲しげな雁の声が聞こえてくるかのようです。
