Art Play Group Painting Wall - Meri Cherry

We kicked off Art Play Group last Friday with a bang. It is so fantastic to see all these new faces along with our play group veterans. It’s amazing how much they’ve grown in just a few months! I just love watching these kids explore, create and get messy! Last season I found this great […]

Slide Painting Activity

A few weeks ago I shared a Kids Window Art activity we did that involved the use of watered down tempera paint. I had some of that paint leftover and I am pretty frugal so I wanted to find another use for it. Since it was very runny, I thought it would be fun to pour and splatter it. I thought about doing this on an easel (which would yield similar results) but decided to use our slide to watch our paint drip. Painting on a slide is a great way for kids to explore the effect of gravity on…

Spray Paint on Canvas

My buddies have been enjoying our outdoor canvas painting. We've used a variety of materials on it already and we tried a new one today. I diluted the paint and poured it into a spray bottle. This was a lot of fun and quite messy, but since we were outside, the mess wasn't a problem. Squeezing triggers on spray bottles is a great way to build hand strength. Since hand strength is needed for printing and cutting skills, it's important to help children strengthen their hand muscles. Some of my…

Painting Suds

This activity came about as a result of another activity that left me with some leftover paint. Not a whole lot, but I do hate to waste materials. We were heading outdoors to play, so I threw the paints & some brushes into a caddy and grabbed an empty foamy soap dispenser and refilled it. I use about a tablespoon of palmolive dish detergent and then s-l-o-w-l-y fill the dispenser with warm water. If you fill it too fast it's going to foam up before you get enough water in and you'll have to…

Squeezy Paint

I was the very happy recipient of some super cool squeeze bottles. They were made to look like crayons and once held kid's bubble bath. After removing the labels (you know how to do that, right? No? I'll blog about that later.) Sooooo....I removed the labels and then I made up some squeezable paint. I used a very simple recipe of equal parts flour, salt, water and food colouring. And there was just a little bit of bubble bath in the bottom of the bottle. Here's the link to the recipe I used…
