Virtual Art Academy Student- Paintings I Like
Collection by MARLENE GARDNER
Collection of artworks I really like.
Picnic by the Ocean Beach. David Boyd. I really enjoy this painting by Australian artist David Boyd. It is typical of his semi abstract nature scenes where the Viewer is encouraged to use their imagination to construct stories within their mind. Graceful Lines are generally a dominant feature of his work, as are Notan design and the use of complementary colors. I have stood both at a distance and very close to his paintings and been fascinated by their beauty and intricacy.
The Moors. Lois Griffel. Master Artist, Lois Griffel uses organizational structure to frame many of her artworks. Roads, rivers, tracks, garden paths, fences and gateways all feature as a means to create the space division on the canvas. She also uses color harmony as in this painting where the yellow/green complementary beautifully offsets the blue/purple river and ocean. I chose this particular painting because it shows brilliant textural differences in the grass and stream.
Indian Portrait. Nicolai Fechin. Fechin has the ability to render exquisite portraiture. I particularly enjoy the manner in which he creates TEXTURE. The feathering at the ears and around the top of the head, set against more textured work, amazes me. His use of Light and Dark in Notan design is important in all his paintings.
The Performer. Zinaida Serenriakova. I truly enjoy this Russian artist's celebration of femininity through her artwork. Her ability here to capture the softness of the tulle ruffled sleeves against the silky finish of the satin top is typical of the measure of her excellence. She works here with Notan design to highlight the Sitter's face, with Rhythm of Lines in the creases of the satin top and sleeves, and my favorite, Textural diversity with differences in her management of the two…
A Y Jackson Charlyoix-County. 1932 I love the Organizational structure of the road as it winds towards the wavy background. These graceful lines and muted split complimentary tones render beautiful color harmony to the painting.
Lt Foot Practice with Best Friend. Lin Onus Australian Aboriginal Artist {1948-1996} This painting moves me big time!!! The Rhythmic repetition of the trees, the color harmonies, the spaciousness created by the use of the reflections, all engender fascinating stories of man and dog, and freedom. Onus's Spirituality saw unity in sky, earth and water, and man's presence in it, and he has truly grasped that here.
Red Chair with Shawls. Sergei Bongart. The color harmony and high intensity colors used by Russian born American Artist, Sergeei Bongart really interest me. I love his use of subtle greys against brilliant greens and how this all highlights the white shawl. The red/green complementaries work well and are offset by the orange/blues of the building. The white shawl becomes the focal point and the eye is inevitably lead to it from everywhere within the design.
Provincial Olive Grove. Guy Rose. The dominant feature of this awesome picture is its Notan design, but there is also a large emphasis placed on the use of graceful lines in the trees, their branches and the resulting shadows. I love the soft spotlight that draws the eye to the back of the background of the picture.
Winter. Guy Rose. The Organizational Structure created by the river in this icy scene is the dominant design feature in this painting. I love Rose's use of yellow/purple compliments in the lights and mediums which work as a secondary design features.
Orange Hills and Oaks. Seldon Conner Giles. The Organizational Structure of the road in this painting by Giles dominates its design. There is also a strong notan Light/dark component, as well as the use of complimentary orange/blues to create perfect color harmony.
