Math U See {MUS} Review and details on the mastery form of learning. I absolutely love the way this homechool math program works.

Yikes! Alyssa is only one lesson away from completing Math U See Alpha. I wasn't expecting her to finish the curriculum so quickly. We started the program late during the month of September after our move. She will most definitely finish before Christmas because I can no longer stretch out the program. She mastered her addition facts a long time ago. I assumed that she would need a little more time with subtraction but I was dead wrong. In the past, we discussed fact families so that may…

A couple of years ago I came across a lapbook from one of Math U See's newsletter. I knew that it would benifit my daughter. It was a big help for Bug in learning her decimals. Now, it's Little Man's time to start on Decimals and he was really excited since it is Cars. Cars 2 is so fresh on his mind that made it that much better. So to give honors where they are due you can look at "Daniel Academy" blog to see where I was able to make mine. I cannot tell you what a blessing this was for me…

Bug really struggled remembering the colors that go with the numbers with Math U See. I had made up this card for her. It was such a big help for her. She no longer needs to use the card. Little Man is doing Math U See and was having some difficulty. He has to count some of the blocks often enough that it makes math drag out. He already know how to count to 10. I don't see the point in making him do it all the time. I pulled out the card that I made for Bug. He is picking up the number with…

My own made up way of teaching money by using Math-U-See manipulatives. This really made sense to them as they could visually see that a quarter is made up of 2 dimes and a nickel, etc.

Our Decimal Street folder - The green units house and blue tens house each hold 9 Math-U-See blocks. The red hundreds house is not to scale (it would be too big!) Used two regular size file folders to make this.

Recently we have started using the Math-U-See curriculum in our home, adapting it for our pre-primer children. One of the highlights of the program is making a poster of a placed called "decimal street" to teach place value. Looking for ideas, I found The Daniel Academy's lapbook. I really liked the idea of using Cars characters to make the street more appealing. For our edition, green units go to Mater's tow yard (mater is green!), tens go to Sally's hotel, and the hundreds get to go to…

This was suggested by my friend Chanin- to make little car shapes to write on, instead of the squares. I will still keep my square shapes fo...
