The ornamental Catelpa tree is a foundation planting in our white garden. Can be grown in the shade of the giant Burr Oaks on the property, so we have several of them. Large white trumpet shaped flowers appear in late spring, slightly fragrant on top of the heart shaped bright green leaves. In late summer vanilla bean like pods appear, that turn brown and fall in early autumn. The northern variety can grow to 40 - 60' high and 20 - 40' around.
