Yarn bombing, yarnstorming, guerrilla or graffiti knitting is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk. While other forms of graffiti may be expressive, decorative, territorial, socio-political commentary, advertising or vandalism, yarn bombing was initially almost exclusively about reclaiming and personalizing sterile or cold public places. I just discovered the concept and find it to be FUN!

Vintage Fan Ripple Stitch Pattern pattern by Janis Cortese

This pattern came about as a result of this thread, which I figured out from the photo linked in the first post. It would make a great afghan in DK-or-heavier yarn, and this sample that I’m working up in fingering is going to be a nice scarf. Done widthways, it’d be a nice stole.

Yarn Bombing 2014 - Greerton Village

2013 was the first year that Greerton Villagers attempted to yarn bomb the cherry blossom trees throughout the village. A covert operation including members from the public of all walks of life and abilities, knitters crocheters, weavers and wannabees gathered to create their woolly masterpieces. What started as an idea lead to new skills being learned, great yarns spun and new friendships kindled. The project grew from an initial 5-6 trees to a whopping 17 yarn bombed creations being…

10 Ambitious Yarn Bombing Projects

You've probably seen some greying crocheted yarn around a telephone pole, or a tree trunk that looks like it's wearing a giant leg warmer. That's yarn bombing, a form of graffiti that involves covering objects in public spaces with knitted, woven, or crocheted yarn cozies. Some yarn bombers have gotten even more ambitious than trees and telephone poles. Here are a few of the most beautiful and outrageous examples of yarn bombing we could find.
