Haiku Tunnel Books

Tunnel books are fun and unique! We made ours using a post card for a prompt and wrote a haiku to go with it. I’ve made these with grade 4 and up, but younger students could enjoy this activity in “centers”, with the help of parent volunteers, or by having the various parts prepped for …

Search | The Kindergarten Smorgasboard

Howdy! I am Mr. Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard. My real name is Greg Smedley-Warren. I have been teaching for 11 years. I spent a year teaching fifth grade, two years in second grade and am now in my 9th year in Kindergarten. Kindergarten is my passion and my calling but honestly, that wasn’t how it started. When I was moved to Kindergarten (not voluntarily!) I called my mommy and cried. But on the first day, I fell in love and knew that Kindergarten is where I belonged. I have…

Read "When it starts to snow" or "Time to Sleep" and then discuss how various animals get ready for winter. Some animals migrate to warmer climates, some animals find a warm home and then hibernate and sleep all winter, others are active or awake all winter long and try hard to gather food. Then have your child sort and glue the animals in their winter habitats.

More Bears!

This week was our bear/hibernation theme. Lots of fun! If you have not read this book, you must! It is HILARIOUS! (Especially the ending... loved it! haha) Here are some of the nonfiction books we read this week to help us fill in our bear chart. We looked at these four types of bears: brown, black, polar, and panda. Here is the chart we created: When we talked about what bears ate, we did this fun little taste test/graphing activity that came from Rachelle over at What the Teacher Wants…
