Get to Know 26-Year-Old Trainer Anna Meah

She’s only 26 years old and she’s only been training on her own for a few months, but Anna Meah is destined for big things. In her first eight races as a professional trainer, five of her horses have finished in the top three. Even more remarkable, one of her very first starters, named Excellent Sunset, crossed the finish line first in the Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar.

Tampa Bay Derby Diaries: A Homecoming

Saturday was a homecoming for me: I returned to the track that was my headquarters, finishing school and rec room for six years before I came to work for what is now America’s Best Racing. Tampa Bay Downs is my version of heaven, and walking through the gates for the first time in a few years on Saturday put the biggest smile on my face. I'm home!! Happy #TBDerby day,

Belmont Diaries: Crowning the Pharoah

I’m not sure that any words that I write today will adequately capture the magic of experiencing American Pharoah becoming the first Triple Crown winner of my lifetime, but I’m going to try. Fortunately, I have photos to help me convey just how unforgettable this year’s Belmont Stakes was. American Pharoah was definitely the horse everyone was talking about at Belmont Park on

Preakness Diaries: Storming to the Triple Crown

Preakness Stakes day started very auspiciously: the skies were bright, the birds were chirping, and Baltimore woke up to a perfect morning. I actually debated bringing my rain gear to Pimlico, since the weather was so perfect when I was leaving the press hotel. Fortunately, I decided that it would be better to have precipitation preparation and not need it than the other way

Richard Mandella: A Lifelong Horseman

As Richard Mandella reflects on his magnificent training career, he recalls that he drew greater motivation from fear of failure than aspirations of greatness. “I never had any great dreams about what it actually became. Hall of Fame and all of that, it never entered my mind,” he said. “I just wanted to be some kind of success.”
