GEISHA LEANING ON SNOW SHOVEL

You can see another nice variant image from the same photoshoot at Naomi no Kimono Asobi's photostream here : www.flickr.com/photos/kimonoasobi/3384031500/ This is a nice studio image of a Geisha named EIRYU, who along with so many others, made fortunes for the owners of the Geisha Houses, photographers, and the postcard-sellers who peddled huge amounts of their photographs to both native and tourist alike. Photos such as this, with odd or unique content would always catch the eye. The snow…

THE GEISHA

Yes, I know this is a long caption. It was put up in batches, and needs a good "once over" by a sympathetic editor. One of these days I will cut it in half. Until then, here you go... GEISHA. GEIGI is another form, but I don't personally know anyone who uses this more obscure tag, and have not seen it used in the standard old references from the Meiji and Taisho eras. In any case, the generic term that covers…

TERUHA and Her LITTLE FRIEND

Perhaps this child was just sold by her Father into the Willow World, and will spend a few years growing up in the Geisha House as a maid-servant before starting her official training as a Maiko. Teruha got a later start. She was not actually sold off into the Geisha world by her father until she was 12 years old. That was much later than the average. Notice Teruha's bandaged little finger on the left hand, the bandage showing up a whiter shade of pale. NOTE : In real life, many years after…
