I like this picture (which most likely accompanied a story in a magazine titled "Lovely Neighbor") for several reasons. She is playing with the beads and her hair at the same time. The outfit she has on is not seen much in illustrations of this period (50-60's). The man is not looking directly at her, but seems to be paying attention. All this works for a great picture.

It's swimming and vacation season. According to family lore my great grandmother Olga Espelien Andrew tried to help her son, Orville Andrew keep up with the times in the 1920s but not having the money to purchase anything fashionable took it upon herself to repurpose the wool yarn unraveled from an old, orange sweater and knit her son a bathing suit of the latest style. He was even pleased with the results and proudly wore it to swim with the other teenagers at nearby Fraser River. Imagine…
I think he's offering to carry her bag, but she's indecisive. I say give the guy a chance. This painting illustrated the story "The Trouble With Love" in the Saturday Evening Post in June 1955.
